CC Sabathia injury update: Yankee LHP out until at least July

  • The New York Yankees will not have left-hander CC Sabathia back to bolster their injury-plagued rotation until at least July, the New York Post reports.“It will be no sooner than six weeks from now,” New York GM Brian Cashman told the newspaper. Sabathia was placed on the disabled list on May 11 with inflammation in his right knee. Late last week, he got a stem cell treatment injection in the knee from Dr. James Andrews.“Our dialogue with Andrews has been good and the small sample of stem cell procedures, the results are very successful, but he has to be pain free before strengthening, so there is a way to go," Cashman told the newspaper. "Because he is a starter it will take l夜网论坛onger. I have no idea how long it will be and if it will be successful. We are hoping it is six weeks to a major league return.” New York already is minus two injured starters in Ivan Nova (season-ending elbow surgery) and Michael Pineda (back). Japanese rookie Masahiro Tanaka has taken over at the top of a rotation that looked formidable just a few weeks ago.Pineda completed his 10-game suspension for using pine tar and was placed on the DL. Cashman said the team is targeting the second week of June for Pineda’s return if things go well.Sabathia, 33, is making $23 million this season, the sixth in a deal that will pay him $161 million over seven years. He is 3-4 with a 5.28 ERA, with opponents hitting .301 off him this season. With three-fifths of his rotation now on the shelf, Cashman is tr[......]
